About Cereal & Milk
Like almost everyone from my generation, I grew up reading Shel Silverstein's crazy, silly, and serious poems and books. He had a way with words and storytelling that made his works instantly dinstinguishable and always delightful. When he passed away in May, 1999, he went with quite a résumé. His work clearly comes out of the peace-loving '60s and '70s, and it is uplifting and inspiring to readers both younger and older.
I don't pretend to have the same kind of talent that Shel Silverstein had, but his work has now inspired me to try my hand. This site is my way of thanking him and others like him for putting their work out there for us to read and love. I am collecting my crazy and silly and serious thoughts together with some drawings, and I am sharing them with you.
Also, as a way to help you understand what you might see here on the site, I consider all of the works here to be works in progress. Don't be surprised if you come back to see a poem you liked and find a new or different drawing with it or some words rearranged. I intend for this to be a youngster-friendly site, too, so if you are hoping to find something bawdy, you'll be disappointed. On the other hand, like Shel Silverstein, Edward Gorey, Tim Burton, and others like them, I think you kids can handle a little bit of dark humor from time to time.
Enjoy often.
